THE road is getting wider. The picture is getting clearer. The short list is getting shorter as 2007 approaches.

In past interviews, NIA Administrator Arturo C. Lomibao gave indirect answers about his political plan. It was different last Friday evening. Here’s an excerpt from the short interview done by some mediamen.

“As I’ve said before I will make the decision at the right time. The right time is sooner or later. But I’m training my sights on the governorship. I am also doing some consultations with various sectors so that when the time comes that I will make the decision, then I will be very confident that I have prepared myself for that eventual activity, which is the May elections,” he said when asked that favorite question.

Utang na loob or debt of gratitude. One of the good virtues of both Filipinos and Koreans.

One thing I’ve learned from the people whom I look up to and consider my role models is - giving back the good things done or extended to you need not be to the giver himself. Do good deeds to other people. The magnitude is immaterial. What matters is that you’re doing it wholeheartedly, and without any expectation.

We met Mr. Dukshin Park during the VictoRey Gen. ReynaldoVelasco Cycling Classic last October 29 Sta. Barbara. He’s in the country to pay his father’s debt of gratitude to a Filipino farmer who shielded the late Park Sung Suk during World War II.

BISKEG na Pangasinan , the only accredited provincial political party in Pangasinan had there board of directors and membership meeting last Tuesday evening at the Heritage Hotel in Pasay City.

Presided by Biskeg na Pangasinan founding chairman and president, Undersecretary Antonio “Bebot” Villar Jr., the meeting was well attended. And the special guest? It was First Gentleman Mike Arroyo no less who arrived at the lobby of the hotel casually with only one person trailing him.

Through the motion of San Fabian Mayor Mojamito Libunao, FG Mike was unanimously adopted as (the first, and only, I heard) honorary member of Biskeg.

SMORGASBORD/ Foggy morns

By LIWAY C. MANANTAN-YPARRAGUIRRE

WAKE up early, say between 5 a.m.-6 a.m., go outside and you will be gently kissed by, surprise, surprise, the fog. Yes, fog, as though you are in Baguio City. Yet, here I am in Dagupan City, in the lowlands, so to speak, and still being greeted by the morning mist. .
With the cold mornings (It’s still hot in the evening in this part of the city where we live), I can’t help but reminisce my college days in Baguio. Read more

SMORGASBORD: Water from Mark

By LIWAY C. MANANTAN-YPARRAGUIRRE

MY town Laoac (my family used to live in barangay Cabilaoan), will no longer be as quiet and sluggish. .

This is because of its knight in shining armor, fifth district Congressman Mark O. Cojuangco.

Farming is the main source of livelihood here. No factories, no warehouses, nothing but farm lands (which are practically of no use during dry season). Some of the townsfolk are lucky enough to have families working abroad, mostly in Europe.
* * * *
How did Cong. Mark become its knight in shining armor? Well, he gifted my town with water and milk (which will be coming soon).

SMORGASBORD: Dada, ang Reyna

By LIWAY C. MANANTAN-YPARRAGUIRRE

THE gargantuan task of coming up with a beautiful fiesta in Dagupan City rests on the fair shoulders of petite city councilor Ma. Librada Fe “Dada” Manaois Reyna.

Had a chat with her last week at her office at her office and this was what she had to say about the job. “Hindi natin papasukin basta-basta ang isang bagay na hindi natin pinaghandaan, Dada said matter-of-factly.

“For the past four years, i’ve been observing and studying how the city fiesta is being run. I’ve been actively participating in the events to prepare me to this eventuality,” she said.

Definitely, the training and exposure of this young lady president of JCI Dagupan Inc. in the Jaycees will be very helpful to her

With her at the helm of the city fiesta, definitely her relatives in both the Manaois and Reyna clan will not let her fail. Same goes with her Jaycees family.

“Prepare the toilet for the next user.”

A very simple but meaningful reminder from Congressman. Conrado M. Estrella III.
It smacks right on the saying “Don’t do unto others what you don’t want others do unto you.”
Let’s examine ourselves, have we ever thought about it? Do you have the “never mind attitude” on what the next user might say or feel?

Cong. Estrella utilizes a different design for classrooms or school buildings being funded by congressional fund. He said it is an unconventional design different from the classroom design being used by the DepEd. Read more

A FAST lane was created at the Region 1 Medical Center here for suspected patients of dengue fever being brought into the hospital for immediate medical attention.
