ALAMINOS CITY—A 12-year old coed of the Alaminos City National High School won a gold and silver in the 2nd World Taekwondo Culture Expo in Korea held from July 4 to 10.

The petite Melanie Hope Douglas, competing as member of the powerhouse Philippine team, won the gold in the under-13 poomsae category and a silver medal in the sparring event.

Douglas’ gold medal in poomsae was extra sweet because she was just a late replacement. She was originally entered only for the sparring event. Read the rest of this entry »

URDANETA CITY – The Multi-Sectoral Anti-Corruption Council (MSAC) recently held its National Anti-Corruption Program of Action (NACPA) road show here with the theme “Katiwalian ay Labanan, Maging Tapat sa Bayan.”

TAYUG—Two private schools, one elementary and the other Montessori, did not hold classes Friday, July 18 as pupils, goaded by their parents, skipped schools despite assurance that the prediction of a Brazilian psychic of an intensity 8 earthquake is a big hoax.

Parents did not let their children go to school at the Foundation Learning School, a private elementary school; and the Divine Grace Montessori School, both in downtown Tayug, obviously in reaction to the prediction made by Brazilian Juseleeno Nobulega Da Roose which was circulated in the internet and published in the media.

VIGAN CITY —Secretary Domingo Panganiban of the National Anti-Poverty Commission has urged local officials to encourage residents to continuously plant malunggay in all vacant lots to ensure cheap but nutritious food for the body.

Here to attend a meeting of key government agencies involved in the national Kalahi convergence program at the Cabugao Beach Resort. ALTHOUGH no typhoon signal was hoisted in Pangasinan, classes in elementary and high school, public and private, were suspended by the Department of Education on Tuesday.
