Espino prods aggie men: Go to farmers in the fields

LINGAYEN—Governor Amado Espino Jr. has ordered personnel of the Provincial Agriculturist and the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPVET) to go to the field and provide hands-on technology to the farmers.

He said in this time when there is pressing need to produce more food on the dining table, transfer of technology to farmers, fishermen and animal raisers should be re-intensified.

Espino made the order in view of the forthcoming rainy season that will signal the start of this year’s first rice cropping season.

With the rains now pouring in Pangasinan almost every afternoon, many farmers have started plowing and harrowing their fields in preparation fro their first rice cropping.

The provincial government has already started improving its demonstration farms in various towns to become show-windows to farmers and fishermen in modern agriculture and fisheries, Espino said.

In a talk to the heads of OPag and OPVet, Espino said: “I challenge the workforce of your office to regain dignity of labor by going out to the field so that you can teach farmers the new methodology in farming.

He added “We all have mission to the province: Let us help our farmers improve on what they are doing”.

Espino said he wants OPAG to be the best in agriculture programs and the OPVET to be the best in veterinary programs” throughout the region.
Pangasinan is the largest rice-producing province in the Ilocos Region and the third largest in the entire country, after Nueva Ecija and Isabela, in that order. (PNA)
