Slain Mayor Resuello’s bust, statue unveiled

SAN CARLOS CITY—The bust and life size statue of the late Mayor Julian Resuello were unveiled Wednesday in this city on his first death anniversary.

The bust was unveiled by Resuello’s eldest son, Mayor Julier Resuello, in front of the San Carlos City auditorium, where he was shot and mortally wounded on the night of April 28, 2007.

He died two days later at the St. Luke’s Hospital in Quezon City.

On the other hand, the life-size photo of the late mayor was unveiled by his other son, Vice Mayor Joserez Resuello, in front of the city plaza that was among his many projects during his almost nine-year term.

In the last election, the people of San Carlos rallied behind the Resuello brothers to become the first siblings to be elected mayor and vice mayor of San Carlos from 2004-2007.

“No, we in the Sangguniang Bayan did not declare him a hero. But he’s a hero in the hearts and minds of every people in the city,” Joseres, the vice mayor told media during the ceremony.

He said his father reawakened the people to insist on the kind of development that they and the city deserve, and above all, gave his life so that San Carlos City would be peaceful and secured.

One year after the Resuello patriarch was assassinated however, justice remains elusive for his family.

Although one of the suspected gunman, Angelito Soriano, was already arrested, the principal suspect, Cesar de Guzman, alias “Cabeza” including the still unnamed mastermind, are yet to be arrested.

Soriano was charged for double murder and multiple frustrated murder before the Regional Trial Court of San Carlos City.

De Guzman remained at large despite an intensive manhunt launched by the police for his capture dead or alive and despite a P1.5 million reward money pledged by President Arroyo and other citizens to anyone who can furnish information leading to the solution of the crime.
