THE National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) is currently conducting a second round of public forums on Extremely Low Frequency Electro-Magnetic Field (ELF-EMF) in key cities nationwide in response to requests from various sectors.

The undertaking is part of TransCo’s Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Stewardship Program (CSRESP).

The ongoing information, education and communication campaign is meant to provide TransCo stakeholders and the general public the latest information on ELF-EMF as well as clarify issues and concerns regarding ELF-EMF and power transmission lines.

The first three fora were held at Oxford Hotel, Clark Special Economic Zone, Pampanga on March 28; Pearlmont Inn, Cagayan de Oro City on April 4; and Grand Hotel in Iloilo City on April 8.

Some 200 participants attended each forum that included representatives from local government units, government agencies, the academe, distribution utilities, independent power producers (IPPs), NGOs, the media, professional organizations and TransCo host communities.

Resource speakers included Dr. Apolinario Nazarea and Dr. Quintin Kintanar, academician-scientists of the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST); Dr. Dickerson Moreno, associate professor of De La Salle University; Dr. Agnette Peralta, medical health physicist and director of the Bureau of Health Devices and Technology of the Department of Health (DOH/BHDT).

Another ELF-EMF forum was conducted at Chateau Royale in Nasugbu, Batangas last Friday, April 11. \

The information campaign is spearheaded by TransCo’s Environmental Management Department - Project Management Group in coordination with HR Training Division, the Corporate Communication Division, and the regional Operation & Maintenance offices.
