Lingayen Pista’y Dayat features musical extravaganza

LINGAYEN – The pomp and glitter of sea festival will peel off a new sensation of entertainment in the coming celebration of this year’s Pistay Dayat.

“It’s music galore with social and cultural relevance,” said provincial administrator Raffy Baraan, the executive chairman of this year’s Pangasinan Pistay Dayat.

“Pangasinenses — young and old — are basically music lovers and dance enthusiasts, Baraan added, as he noted that the 2008 events committee had lined up an array of activities that will surely “quench the thirst” of entertainment-seekers.

Consider these spectacular events: Konsyerto sa Gulpo, San Miguel Beer’s Battle of the Bands and Dance Revolution, Grand Orchestra Showdown and Dancesport Fest, Takayan na Dayew ed Kapitolyo (vocal solo competition), Zarzuela tan Turbaan and Say Dayat Tan Musika concert featuring the Philippine Madrigal Singers.

Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. described the staging of the events as “reawakening of Pangasinenses consciousness regarding music, dances, arts and culture of the province.

“All thiese will further develop love of the province and environment,” the governor stressed.

The staging of the ‘Konsyerto sa Gulpo’, an environmental concert is an opportunity for young local bands to express their environmental advocacy campaign thru their music. This provides them the chance to air their concern against global degradation and express fully their deep concern for the environment via their passion for singing.

Elimination rounds for the band competitions has started and culminates with a grand concert and final competition on April 30.

Recognizing that music and dance are forms of self-expression of the passion and intensity of every generation, the provincial government is supporting the endeavor .

The Grand Orchestra Showdown and Dancesport Fest, which is the first of its kind, will mark a new milestone in the history of Pistay Dayat celebration, Baraan said, as he noted that five of the province’s top orchestra groups will go on outdoor performance simultaneously.

Dubbed ‘Pansasayawan, Panturugtugan,’ this music and dance event aims to showcase the best orchestras in the province thru a friendly competition and likewise search for the best ballroom dancers on the night of April 24.

Kansyunan Diad Gilig Na Dayat (Vocal Solo competition) caters to all ages that have the passion for music and who possess powerful, captivating voice. This will be held on April 25, 7 p.m. also at the Capitol stage.

Zazuela Tan Turbaan is another event for both young and old alike to showcase the rich culture of the province specifically on love and courtship. The play will be participated in by students coming from various schools in Pangasinan as well as teachers. It runs on April 26 at the Capitol Plaza.
