Cow gives birth to 3 calves in Ilocos Sur
By FREDDIE LAZARO
VIGAN CITY—A cow in Ilocos Sur became an overnight local sensation when it gave birth to a triplet calves on Monday.
The cow, owned by farmer Wilson Navarro, 37, of Barangay Biddeng Daya, Vigan City, is now the talk of the town after its astonishing birth delivery of the triplet calves. All the three male calves were normally delivered.
Unfortunately, the first calf died a few seconds after it was born as it may have been suffocated in his mother’s womb.
Dr. Liborio Arca, Vigan City veterinary officer, said it was his first time to see a cow giving birth to three all-male calves.
Arca disclosed that each calf had an estimated weight of 4 to 5 kilograms each.
According to Arca, the birth of the triplet cows may have something to do with the timing on her fertility during her period of copulation by a bull.
The city veterinary officer taught the farmer how to take care of the two remaining calves through supplemental feeding, including the giving of vitamins and milk.
“These are intended to help the mother cow in nurturing the calves,” Arca added.
