Arms cache seized in Ilocos Sur

CAMP PRESIDENT QUIRINO, Ilocos Sur—Elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) seized a cache of high-powered firearms, including assorted ammunitions, in a raid on a house in Barangay Lao-ingen, Sot. Domingo, Ilocos Sur last Wednesday.

The raid was conducted following several complaints of residents that one of their neighbors was often firing his firearms indiscriminately whenever he was drunk.

Senior Superintendent Marvin Bolabola, regional chief of CIDG in Ilocos Region, identified the suspected gunowner as Gregorio Tabasan, a resident of barangay Lao-ingen, Sto. Domingo, this province.

Confiscated from the suspect were a Colt AR15 Baby Armalite rifle, a home-made shotgun with no serial number, three pieces of magazine (long) for M16 rifle, five live ammunition for shotgun and 86 rounds of live ammunitions for M16.

Bolabola said that the arrest of Tabasan was effected by operatives led by police Chief Inspector Ricarte Marquez on the strength of a search warrant issued by Judge Francisco Ante, Jr. of the Municipal Trial Court in Vigan City Ilocos Sur.
