SINAIT, Ilocos Sur—A 13-year old pupil was killed when she and he father, a barangay captain, were ambushed on Friday by unidentified men in barangay Cabangtalan, Sinait, Ilocos Sur.

The fatality was identified as Nica Jane Vergara, Grade 6 pupil at the Cabangtalan Elementary School, who was aboard the car driven by her father on their way home at about 11:25 p.m.

Wounded was Nick Vergara, the incumbent barangay captain of La Virgen Dela Milagrosa, Badoc, Ilocos Norte.

The elder Vergara had just picked up Nica Jane from school where she was undergoing rehearsal for their upcoming graduation rites.

The girl suffered gunshot wounds on the head and died on the spot.

Her father had gunshot wounds in different parts of his body and is still fighting for his life.

Empty shells of M-14 and M-16 Armalite rifles were found by policemen who rushed to the crime scene. (PNA)
