Tondaligan beach shed owners’ dues due

SHED OWNERS at Tondaligan have beeen told to pay their unpaid monthly rentals or else they would lose their rights, the park in-charge said Thursday.

Tondaligan Park officer Ike Palinar told a radio interview that less than 100 owners so far have paid their dues out of more than 200.

He said the owners were only given up to last Friday, March 15, to settle their obligations. It was not immediately known if City Hall gave them extension of the grace period.

Palinar said the ideal number of sheds is only about a hundred, noting that many are unoccupied especially during lean months. The peak season is only during April and May.

It was discovered that some owners are not residents of the city. They reportedly bought rights from the original owners, who were from Dagupan particularly the Bonuan area.

Palinar said the delinquent occupants have accumulated dues since 2002 despite demands for them to settle their obligations.

Uniform sheds were built early this year inward from the shoreline as strong winds and waves battered the old makeshift stalls last year forcing owners to vacate them.

It was not clear however why the city allowed the delinquent occupants to construct new sheds yet despite their arrears.

Palinar said he was just assigned in his position when the
construction began, which, he said, was initiated by the shed owners cooperative in coordination with the city government.
Meanwhile, Palinar clariified that his office is not engaged in the harvesting of coconuts which abound in the park, saying it was the lookout of the barangay particularly Bonuan Gueset.
“Say opisina nen barangay captain (Angel) Gumarang so akaoley ed satan,” he said in reply to accusations that his office was only good at harvesting the nuts. (DOS)
