THE Second Highway Engineering District has assured the public that the ongoing upgrading of a 650-meter portion of the Dagupan-Binmaley-Lingayen Road in barangay Tapuac here will be completed before the rainy season.

Rodolfo Dion, second highway district engineer, said that flood-prone portion of the road is now being elevated by .70 meter.

Costing P20 million, the project is expected to be finished before the city’s Bangus Festival slated sometime in April this year, he said.

LINGAYEN - Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. outlined complete with an audio-visual presentation efforts of the provincial government to transform the people and its facilities in order to be able to accomplish its mission: “To make Pangasinan the best place to invest, visit, live, work and raise a family.

In his briefing to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan during its regular session last March 10, the governor, through a message read for him by provincial administrator Rafael Baraan, formally announced his 10 major development thrusts.

These are Safe and peaceful neighborhood, quality and affordable health care, adequate and high quality education, increased agricultural productivity, better jobs and income opportunities, youth and sports development, tourism development, affordable and socialized housing, mega infrastructure projects and Pangasinan Special Eco-Tourism Zone. SHED OWNERS at Tondaligan have beeen told to pay their unpaid monthly rentals or else they would lose their rights, the park in-charge said Thursday.

Tondaligan Park officer Ike Palinar told a radio interview that less than 100 owners so far have paid their dues out of more than 200.

He said the owners were only given up to last Friday, March 15, to settle their obligations. It was not immediately known if City Hall gave them extension of the grace period.

NEGLIGENCE and carelessness are the major factors in the occurrence of fire, the Dagupan city fire marshal said Tuesday.
Sr. Insp. Romualdo Mina said that fire fighters always consider every day as fire prevention day since fire, he pointed out, occurs anytime even during the cold season.

The country observes March as fire prevention month because of the start of summer and to make people fire-conscious throughout the year.

LINGAYEN – Pista’y Dayat 2008 promises to be a grand and spectacular event with the search for Limgas na Dayat 2008 as one of the highlights.

In line with this, the screening for the beauty pageant will be held on March 16 and 23, 1 p.m. at the Lingayen Resort Hotel here.

Leo G. Urmaza, pageant chairperson, said that candidates must possess the following qualifications: single, 16-23 years old, resident of Pangasinan for at least one year, at least 5’3” in height, high school graduate, of good moral character and with pleasing personality.

THE Philippines needs to bring down its high maternal mortality by 2015 as it is one of the nations in Southeast Asia that still ranks high in that category.

This was revealed during the day-long observance of the 5th National Pregnant Women Day held at the CSI Stadia and Jimmy L. Fernandez Center in Dagupan City on March 10.

The national statistics shows there are 200 women dying for every 100,000 births, said Dr. Ellen Manzano, regional director of the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS) in the Ilocos-Pangasinan region. Read more

SINAIT, Ilocos Sur—A 13-year old pupil was killed when she and he father, a barangay captain, were ambushed on Friday by unidentified men in barangay Cabangtalan, Sinait, Ilocos Sur.

The fatality was identified as Nica Jane Vergara, Grade 6 pupil at the Cabangtalan Elementary School, who was aboard the car driven by her father on their way home at about 11:25 p.m.

Wounded was Nick Vergara, the incumbent barangay captain of La Virgen Dela Milagrosa, Badoc, Ilocos Norte.

LINGAYEN—A total of 280 jobseekers applied during a special jobs fair for health and medical workers held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center here on March 7.

Sponsored by the Provincial Employment and Services Office (PESO), the jobs fair was to recruit workers who will be deployed in the countries like New Zealand, Norway, Cyprus, Canada, Brunei, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States.
