Former Bayambang town councilor shot dead

BAYAMBANG—The police are looking into all angles in connection with the slaying last March 10 of a former councilor of Bayambang in front of his home in Poblacion here.

Police Provincial Director Senior Superintendent Isagani Nerez identified the slain former village official as Eufrocinio Sabangan, who suffered several gunshot wounds in different parts of his body and died on the spot.

Nerez told newsmen in Lingayen that they have no clear motive yet on the slaying and are asking the public to help investigators solve the case by giving information.

Sabangan, who ran for mayor but lost in the last election, was shot by armed men who alighted from a blue van at about 7 a.m.

Investigators found six empty shells of Caliber .45 and 9 mm. pistols at the crime scene.

“Some are saying the motive could be political although he (Sabangan) is now in private life. So, we were also looking into the possibility that his slaying may have been associated when he was still in politics,” Nerez said. (PNA)
