Dagupan’s seafood processing plant is world-class

THE soon-to-be constructed Seafoods Processing Plant in Dagupan City will provide opportunities to exporters of processed fish so that their products can meet world standards.

Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. said the proposed plant that will be financed by a grant of U.S. $2.2 million from the Korean government will have world-class facilities.

Set to be constructed starting in June this year, the plant will have modern refrigeration and vacuum pack facilities, among others, which are all products of Korea.

A training package is needed in order to train workers on how to properly use the modern facilities, Fernandez said.

He said personnel would be needed for deboning, packing, refrigeration, take out, delivery and administration, who must all be trained.

Construction of the plant is already set following the signing of a memorandum of agreement in Quezon City by the resident representative of the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Fernandez and Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap.

The plant will be constructed on a 1.8 hectare lot just beside the National Integrated Fisheries Technology Development Center (NIFTDC) in Bonuan Binloc.

Fernandez said he had directed the City Engineers Office to prepare the area and to relocate the few families that constructed their houses at the site to the Gawad-Kalinga Bangusville in Bonuan Gueset. (PNA)
