Planned riverside boulevard slammed

RIVERSIDE property owners who stand to be affected by a planned boulevard in their area may not so easily grant the city government its wish of donating part of their lots..

A letter entitled “Greed for Power” last week criticized the plan of the city government to build the riverside boulevard starting from behind the Star Plaza Hotel up to the back of the Land Transportation Office.

]The letter-writer is among the recipients of a letter from City Legal Officer George Mejia asking them to donate portions of their land to give way to the project but which, he stated, was planned without prior consultation or public hearing attended most especially by owners of property to be affected.

The letter questioned the project planned by the administration of Mayor Alipio Fernandez which, it said, was without any feasibility study or a specific ordinance to back it up.

The letter writer said Mejia’s letter asking them to donate portions of their property was received only this month of February.

The concerned lot owner chided Mejia for threatening all owners of property near the Pantal River bank with legal action if they do not donate portion of their property so that the project can be realized.

He said how they wished that Mejia also owns a property near the Pantal riverbank so that he can also feel the hurt if similarly forced by the city government to part with a portion of their lots.

“You are threatening right away to sue us. We are not criminals Atty. We are law-abiding citizens, taxpayers. Bakit naman ganyan, Hindi naman yata tama yon,” the concerned lot owner said.

Aside from this, the lot owner questioned the wisdom of building a road parallel to A.B. Fernandez Avenue West when in fact the new Dawel-Pantal-Lucao Road is about to be opened.

The lot owner suggested to the city government to just reclaim portions of the Pantal River to turn into a Boulevard so that the city government need not sue owners of the adjacent property.
