Overseas Dagupenos vow help for city’s homeless
A GROUP of Dagupeños in the North Bay area of California, USA is raising $50,000 among themselves in order to build houses for at least 30 families belonging to the city’s poorest of the poor.
Members of the group are pooling their resources so that they can contribute their share in solving the acute housing problem in the city, according to City Administrator Alvin Fernandez.
The houses will be built in the city’s Gawad Kalinga-Bangusville Housing Project in barangay Bonuan Gueset where some 100 houses already stand.
Fernandez said families that will qualify to own the new housing units will be selected by the GK management board.
He expressed hope that more well-meaning Dagupeños abroad with big hearts will also share their blessings with members of less fortunate families in the city.
During the construction of the housing units, the would be beneficiaries will contribute labor as their lone equity.
Established by the past city administration, the GK-Bangusville Housing Project, has been transformed into a self-sufficient community over the years.
He said the city government introduced at Bangusville an urban garden project for women that assured enough vegetables for the whole community.
Idle womenfolk were also trained on bangus deboning so that they can set up their own livelihood projects and be able to boost the meager incomes of their husbands. (PNA)
