171 welders, 36 engineers to train in shipbuilding

LINGAYEN – The Provincial Employment and Services Office (PESO) of Pangasinan facilitated the hiring of 13 job construction and industrial workers to giant corporations EEI Corporation and DMC Incorporated during the Special Jobs Fair held yesterday, January 31 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center in Lingayen.

PESO-Pangasinan Chief Alex Ferrer said that some 171 welders and 36 mechanical engineers qualified during the one-day Job Fair will immediately undergo training in Subic, Olongapo City as shipbuilding staff.
On instruction of Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr., the provincial government is bound to double its efforts to improve the unemployment rate in the province, Ferrer said.

According to Ferrer more job fairs will be conducted on a monthly basis, the next of which is scheduled on the third week of February, 2008 for hotel and management workers.

In addition, Ferrer disclosed that SITEL, one of the biggest call center companies in the country, has expressed its desire to invest in Pangasinan.

Espino, expressed elation over the development as he suggested to offer a possible site within the Capitol area.

PESO was recently adjudged best employment office regionwide and has placed an unprecedented number of 788 Pangasinan workers, a record since its establishment in 1993.

A total of 526 applicants have responded in yesterday’s jobs fair.(PIO/Ruby R. Bernardino)
