THE city government’s campaign against illegal squatters at beach lots in Bonuan Binloc is taking aggressive swings against all those involved in the land anomaly.

A member of the Task Force on Housing and Urban Poor Resettlement echoed late last week the notice given by the task force chairman, City Engineer Virginia Rosario, that demolition of all illegal structures at the beach is being readied even as a legal team is checking out the documents of those engaged in the illegal occupancy of beachlots.

GUNS are again barking in eastern Pangasinan, particularly Tayug town, which has seen many a violent clash between warring political groups in the recent past.

The latest was another encounter last week between henchmen of the Zaragosas and alleged bodyguards of Mayor Carlos Trece Mapili. Violence has become commonplace, ironically, in a part of the province that is nestled among some of the quiet, reflective, languid landscapes you will ever find in the countryside.

IF NOT for strong winds and surging waters hitting them last year, beach shed owners at the Tondaligan (People’s Park) would have stuck to their decrepit facilities.

Now they have finally agreed to leave the waves-battered shoreline and move farther inland.

REVENUE collections of Dagupan City from real property, business and community taxes and miscellaneous fees registered a 9.10 percent increase for 2007.

Records revealed last year’s collections from all these sources totaled P407, 788,784.59.

A report from the city’s One-Stop Business Center (OSBC) showed the total collection is P34, 027, 853.96 greater than the 2006 total collection.
