TAYUG — A barangay captain, his brother, and a barangay councilman here are now reportedly in hiding after they were named in a complaint for attempted murder filed by an alleged bodyguard of Mayor Carlos Trese Mapili.

The complaint filed before the office of Assistant Provincial Prosecutor Noel Bince named the respondents as Allan Zaragoza, Barangay Captain of Barangay D here, his brother Leonil, and Wendel Pajela, councilman of Barangay D.

Allan was former vice mayor while Leonil was former councilor of Tayug.

RIVERA street has already been cleared of sidewalk obstructions with other roads and streets to follow, according to the city information office.

The city engineering office demolished extensions, shanties and other constructions made on the sidewalks of Rivera after due notices to the owners, said Mae Viray of CIO at the weekly Pantongtongan Tayo radio program of the Philippine Information Agency over Radyo ng Bayan DZMQ last Tuesday.

She said the clearing and recovery operations sought to give the sidewalks back to the pedestrians who face danger of being sideswiped by vehicles for walking right on the roads in the absence of sidewalks.

STA. BARBARA — ” Agmi susukiten tay airport project na Alaminos,” (We’re not grabbing the airport project from Alaminos) Mayor Reynaldo Velasco of this third district town clarified Friday.

SAN CARLOS CITY—Mayor Julier Resuello paid tribute to two city-based non-government organizations for their outstanding contributions to the progress and development of the city.

The two are the Marcelo Casillan Foundation (MCF) and the Binalatongan Historical and Cultural Foundation, both led by Marcelo Casillan Jr., an engineer.

The MCF bought millions of pesos worth of forest trees which it donated to the different elementary and high schools in the city for planting as their response to the phenomenon of climate change Read more

BAUANG, La Union—Police operatives here disarmed an Abra town mayor and his two police escorts for rowdy conduct while having a drinking spree in one of the beach resorts here Saturday evening.

This happened shortly after one of the escorts of Mayor Edwin Crisologo of Tineg, Abra reportedly fired his gun indiscriminately, prompting resort employees to seek assistance from the La Union Police.

Senior Superintendent Pedro Obaldo, La Union assistant police provincial director for administration, led the responding policemen.

THE police are following up leads on the whereabouts of two bodyguards of the Tayug vice mayor who shot and wounded two bodyguards of the town mayor, in a bloody grudge encounter between the two groups last Friday.

Now being hunted by police operatives are Joven Bautista and Lacay Alcaneses, both bodyguards of Vice Mayor Janet Zaragoza.
Already recovering from their respective wounds in different hospitals are Bimbo Clutario and Ruben Sotero Jr., both bodyguards of Mayor Carlos Trese Mapili.

SEVEN Filipino-American psychiatric doctors from Oklahoma, U.S.A. are conducting a medical mission in Dagupan to treat psychiatric patients or those suffering from mental disorders.

The two-day medical mission that started on Thurday was in coordination with the Philippines Mental Health Association chapter headed by Mrs. Elmina Fernandez, wife of the city mayor, and the Dagupan City government.

The municipality of Bani won in the Category of 1st and 3rd class municipalities while Urdaneta City placed third in the Component City category.

MEMBERS of the medical profession in Pangasinan served notice on Monday they will hold a motorcade, noise barrage and simultaneous release of balloons in the coming days in order to dramatize their sentiment against the Cheaper Medicine Bill.

Dr. Gozar Duque, president of the Pangasinan Medical Society (PMS), clarified that the Cheaper Medicine Bill passed by the House of Representatives last year, is noble as it will lower the cost of medicines, except for one particular provision that is highly questionable.
