RIVERA street has already been cleared of sidewalk obstructions with other roads and streets to follow, according to the city information office.
The city engineering office demolished extensions, shanties and other constructions made on the sidewalks of Rivera after due notices to the owners, said Mae Viray of CIO at the weekly Pantongtongan Tayo radio program of the Philippine Information Agency over Radyo ng Bayan DZMQ last Tuesday.
She said the clearing and recovery operations sought to give the sidewalks back to the pedestrians who face danger of being sideswiped by vehicles for walking right on the roads in the absence of sidewalks.
Rivera is just one of busy city streets that has become so narrow due to encroachments by owners of canteens, sari-sari stores and other business establishments there.
Meanwhile, the Fernandez administration said it is is poised to continue celebrating the Bangus Festival as part of the annual Pistay Dayat celebration starting on the last week of April up to May 1, Viray said.
The Bangus festival was a brainchild of the past city administration under former Mayopr benjamin S. Lim
She said that Vice-Mayor Belen Fernandez, who will chair this year’s Pistay Dayat, already secured souvenir programs of the previous editions of the Bangus festival as well as video files apparently to familiarize herself with its features and prepare for the festivities.
There are no definite plans or programs as of the moment yet, she clarified.
Many sectors want to have the Bangus festival continue despite the change in the city administration because Dagupan City became more known and famous for being the City of Bangus. It bagged the Guinness Record of Longest Grill in the world.
