Gawad Kalinga head says Sta. Barbara housing proejct a model one

STA. BARBARA—The housing project to be built here by the municipal government in partnership with Gawad Kalinga and Couples for Christ is not just an ordinary housing project but aims to be the model throughout the country.

This was disclosed by Antonio Meloto, GK national president, in a speech during a program at the municipal hall on January 14 that launched the housing project to be built on a one-hectare area in barangay Leet here.

Meloto and GK regional coordinator Lyndon Bonzon signed a memorandum of agreement with Mayor Reynaldo Velasco pledging to work together so that the housing project for 88 families will be realized.

Assuring GK’s help till the project is completed; Meloto said the housing project in Sta. Barbara will be the model for all other towns of the country, one which he said, “all Pangasinenses should be proud of”.

He went on to ask Velasco, a retired three-star police general, to share his experience in building the project with his fellow mayors, during the next GK summit sometime towards the middle part of this year in Manila.

The project in Sta. Barbara is the second GK-assisted project in Pangasinan. The first one is located in a place called Bangusville in Bonuan Gueset, Dagupan City and a third project is underway in barangay Pangapisan Norte, Lingayen.

The Department of Agrarian Reform donated the one-hectare lot for the project and pledging to donate two hectares more to serve as the project’s production and livelihood center.
