Dagupan water district seeks P100M loan

THE Dagupan City Water District (DCWD) is seeking a P100 million loan with either the Development Bank of the Philippines or the Bank of the Philippine Islands in order to finance its systems expansion.

General Manager Ramon Reyna said the loan will finance Phase II of the water district’s expansion program which aims to store and generate additional ground water for Dagupan’s increasing population.

DCWD junked its previous plan to source out the money from the Local Water Utilities Administration since both DBP and Bank of PI are offering lower interest rates.

The loan, said Reyna, will finance the construction of a reservoir in Bonuan that will store up 2, 450 cubic meters of water and for the construction of three more pumping stations that will generate additional water for the needs of barangays Tapuac, Lucao and Malued.

These projects are urgently needed in order to sustain the needs of water consumers that are expected to balloon up to 35, 000 in 10 years from the present 18, 000.

“If we will follow the trend, we should organize and improve our system for us to be able to respond to the needs of the continuously increasing population in the city”, Reyna said. (PNA)
