SAN JUAN, Ilocos Sur—A former woman barangay kagawad was mauled and killed by unidentified suspects in a rice field in barangay Muraya, this town on Sunday.

The victim, Erlinda Balmoa, 68, was reportedly gathering string beans from her farm when she was mauled by unidentified persons as evidenced by contusions in different parts of her body.

Senior Inspector Benjie Louis Tremor, San Juan chief of police, said Balmoa was found dead by residents, bathing in a pool of her own blood.

Investigators recovered a broken wood near the crime scene, believed to have been used by the suspects in hitting the victim until she died. (PNA)
