Cabugao to open multi-million peso water system
CABUGAO, Ilocos Sur—A multi-million peso water system built solely by the municipal government here is now ready to bring potable water supply to thousands of households in 14 big barangays including the Poblacion.
Cabugao Mayor Diocaesar Suero said on Tuesday the water system, including its pipeline was set to open last Friday.
He said that the water from the project is safe from any disease-causing organism and will cost less.
“The cost of water from our system is considered as the cheapest as we will charge only P50 per first 10 cubic meters, equivalent to 50 drums or P1.00 per drum,” he said.
The project, which is the rehabilitated Cabugao Water System, costs P40million.
Of the amount, P35 million was loaned by the municipality from the Land Bank of the Philippines while the town provided the remaining P5 million.
The water system took more than one year to construct.
“A 12 kilometer main pipeline from Magarang Water Spring was rehabilitated in order to benefit 14 barangays along the south-eastern portion of our town,” he said.
Suero said the newly rehabilitated water system is the first phase of the project benefiting the barangays in the south-eastern portion of the town.
He disclosed that the planning for the second phase of the project costing P20 million is now going on in order to supply safe drinking water to majority of the households in Cabugao
“First phase of the project targets to serve 2, 600 households, while the second phase will reach more than 2, 000 households in order to complete our target of 5, 000 households for the next two years,” he said.
Based on record, almost 65% of the 40, 000 population of the town has been deprived of safe drinking water. (PNA)
