A GROUP of Filipino-American nurses based in Michigan, U.S.A. is donating a state-of-the-art ambulance to the city of Dagupan.

The donation will be made by officers and members of the Far Eastern and American Nurses Association (FANA) of Great Lakes Michigan, who are set to conduct a medical mission here January 21 to 24.

The ambulance, which already arrived in Manila, is set to be turned over by the group to Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. sometime next week.

A MILD earthquake rocked Dagupan City and Pangasinan at about 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, as people were still wide awake and watching their favorite television shows at home.

No damage was, however, reported in the city or any part of the province in the earthquake that was tagged at intensity IV. It registered a magnitude of 5.2 in the Richter scale, according to Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvolcs).

It was the third earthquake felt in Dagupan City and Pangasinan since November 26 last year.

LINGAYEN—A top official of the provincial government belied reports that the Lingayen airport is affected by the so-called crosswind from the Lingayen Gulf, supposedly making plane takeoffs and landings risky.

Provincial Administrator Rafael Baraan dismissed the belief saying that up to 10 trainer planes are landing at the Lingayen airstrip daily.

“That only goes to show that the technical problem (about the crosswind) they are talking about is non-existent”, he said.

STA. BARBARA—Lawmen believe they have busted a carnapping syndicate operating in Central Pangasinan that is targeting motorcycles with the arrest of a barangay councilman of Payas, Sta. Barbara on Sunday.

Arrested was Gerry Carpio who is being pinpointed as the leader of the motorcycle theft gang believed responsible for stealing several motorcycles in the central part of the province, including Dagupan.

The task force was created by Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. to investigate and stop all squatting activities on public lands in the city.

Fernandez issued an executive order canceling all the TDCs issued by the City Assessors Office in a move to stop the squatting.

TWO more notorious drug pushers were arrested in two separate buy-bust operations conducted by operatives of the local police on Tuesday in their continuing campaign to rid the city of illegal drugs.

The first operation conducted by operatives led by Police Inspectors Leo Llamas and George Sali-em in Pantal District here at 3:30 p.m. arrested Romelo Doria, 47, of barangay Nalsian-Pogo in Calasiao.

CAMP OSCAR FLORENDO, La Union,–Fifty-six vintage bombs, believed parts of a Japanese arsenal in World War II, were dug up near the house of a municipal mayor of La Union on Wednesday.

Police operatives and members of the Regional Explosive Ordinance Division of Police Regional Office 1 immediately rushed to sitio Pao, barangay Sobredillo in Caba, La Union where the vintage bombs were dug up.

LINGAYEN—Civil works has started on a 10-hectare lot in barangay Pangapisan Norte here where the provincial government will build a housing project for homeless families.

Governor Amado Espino Jr. said the project will be jointly built by the provincial government in partnership with the Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation Inc. (GKCDFI).

The project called “Abong Tayo Eletneg Program (ATEP)” was discussed during a meeting attended by Antonio “Tony” Meloto, founder of GKCDFI.

VIGAN CITY—Murder and frustrated murder charges were filed before the provincial prosecution office against a barangay chairman tagged as the principal suspect in the slaying of one person and wounding of another in a shooting incident in barangay Pug-os, Sinait, Ilocos Sur.

The suspect, Barangay Captain Marion Ines of Pug-os in Sinait, is now the subject of an intensive police manhunt.

CABUGAO, Ilocos Sur—A multi-million peso water system built solely by the municipal government here is now ready to bring potable water supply to thousands of households in 14 big barangays including the Poblacion.

Cabugao Mayor Diocaesar Suero said on Tuesday the water system, including its pipeline was set to open last Friday.
He said that the water from the project is safe from any disease-causing organism and will cost less. Read more
