Tondaligan redevelopment to be completed this year
THE redevelopment plan for the city’s Tondaligan (People’s Park) will be completed early this year for it to serve its real purpose and attract more tourists.
Tondaligan is part of the national park proclaimed sometime in 1961 by the President Diosdado Macapagal.
City Administrator Alvin Fernandez said several uniformed picnic huts have already been built in the park to replace those that have been blown down or washed out by strong storm surge sometime in late November.
The huts were built by concessionaires themselves, following the pattern prepared by the City Planning and Development Office headed by Engr. Romeo Rosario.
The new huts have no walling in order to give the sea a non-obstructive view from the outside, he said.
At the same time these structures were also set back few meters from the water, away from the salvage zone, so that they will not be affected by another storm surge.
It was learned that the owners of the few remaining old beach huts in the area that were spared by the storm surge were given an ultimatum till January 15 to tear down their facilities.
Fernandez emphasized that all beach huts must not serve as sleeping quarters at night, unlike in the past when the owners of the same were using these as permanent abodes. (PNA)
