4 die in Villasis highway mishap

VILLASIS—Four men on a motorized tricycle were killed when their speeding vehicle collided head-on with an L-300 van coming from the opposite direction along the Mac Arthur Highway in barangay Bacag here on the night of January 7.

A belated report of the Villasis Police showed that the tricycle bearing plate number AI-2643 driven by Arnel Rafanan, 29, of barangay Puelay, Villasis smashed onto a Mitsubishi L-300 van with plate number DKE-337, driven by Jaime Fernandez, 57, of barangay Paldit, Sison, Pangasinan.

Fernandez and all the occupants of the L-300 van were unscathed.

Rafanan, together with one of his passengers in the motorized tricycle, Ernesto Balecha, were rushed to the Don Amadeo Prez District Hospital in Urdaneta City but were pronounced dead on arrival.

Another passenger, Rey Mamasig, 33, was rushed to the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City where he died while undergoing treatment for his injuries.

The fourth fatality, Virgilio Balecha, 22, was also DOA at the Villasis Polymedic Hospital in Villasis.

The Yamaha motorized tricycle was a total wreck while the L-300 van incurred damages in its front body. (PNA)
