SAN CARLOS CITY— The incumbent city mayor here is not contented with the sluggish pace of the investigation on the slaying of his father, the late San Carlos City Mayor Julian Resuello.
Mayor Julier Resuello said even after President Gloria Arroyo promised P1 million reward to any person who can furnish valuable information to the police for the arrest of the perpetrators, including the mastermind, solution to the slaying of his father seems still far off.

LINGAYEN—Former President Fidel V. Ramos said time is now running out fast for Filipino war veterans of World War II who fought side by side with the Americans from 1941 to 1945 because of the long delayed passage of the Filipino Veterans Equity Bill in the United States Congress.
Ramos was the keynote speaker during a commemorative program for the 63rd Anniversary of the Lingayen Gulf Landing of the Liberation Forces under General Douglas Mac Arthur on January 9, 1945 in all the beaches of Pangasinan.

THE Air Transportation Office (ATO) has confirmed that they are looking at either Sta. Barbara or Alaminos City as site for the international airport soon to be built by the government in Pangasinan.
The confirmation was made by officials of ATO who came to Sta. Barbara on Tuesday to officially inform Sta. Barbara Mayor Reynaldo Velasco that they will soon undertake a study on feasibility of Sta. Barbara as site of this international airport.

PRESSED to solve its huge garbage problem, the Dagupan city government will revive its non-functioning materials recovery facilities (MRFs) in every barangay in a bid to reduce the volume of garbage being brought to the city’s dumpsite daily to the barest minimum.
This was disclosed by Councilor Librada Reyna, chair of the city council committee on environment, who said this must be done soonest as the problem of garbage in metropolitan Dagupan has already become critical.

TAYUG—The Pangasinan Provincial Meet to be participated in by athletes from public and private schools will reef off here from January 28-31 with Governor Amado Espino Jr., as guest of honor and speaker.
The Tayug National High School athletic oval, the renovation and improvement of which is now being rushed, will serve as venue for the four-day meet.

ALAMINOS CITY—The out-going ambassador of the Union of Myanmar, Thaung Tun, said that he and his family plans to stay in the country once he retires.
Ambassador Thaung Tun, who is slated to be his country’s next ambassador to Belgium, was joined by his wife Sandar Lwin in a two-day vacation here last week.
Thaung Tun, who considers the Philippines his second home, expressed his preference to spend some time or live permanently in Alaminos City and other coastal cities in the Visayas.

VILLASIS—Four men on a motorized tricycle were killed when their speeding vehicle collided head-on with an L-300 van coming from the opposite direction along the Mac Arthur Highway in barangay Bacag here on the night of January 7.
A belated report of the Villasis Police showed that the tricycle bearing plate number AI-2643 driven by Arnel Rafanan, 29, of barangay Puelay, Villasis smashed onto a Mitsubishi L-300 van with plate number DKE-337, driven by Jaime Fernandez, 57, of barangay Paldit, Sison, Pangasinan.

Two more relatives of Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr., former immigration commissioner; assumed office at the beginning of the year.
No other families with the same surname such as the Fernandezes has ruled Dagupan in such numbers under one administration throughout the city’s political history.

THE redevelopment plan for the city’s Tondaligan (People’s Park) will be completed early this year for it to serve its real purpose and attract more tourists.
Tondaligan is part of the national park proclaimed sometime in 1961 by the President Diosdado Macapagal.
City Administrator Alvin Fernandez said several uniformed picnic huts have already been built in the park to replace those that have been blown down or washed out by strong storm surge sometime in late November.

BINMALEY—A barangay councilman in Caloocan Norte here is wanted for the slaying of a barangay tanod on Saturday.
Wanted by the police is Rod Bautista, who used a Cal. 45 pistol, in shooting Agapito Esguerra Jr. The two had misunderstanding hours before the shooting.
The police said the firearm used in the shooting was probably unlicensed.
