UNITED STATES Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenny and former president Fidel V. Ramos will lead guests during the launching of the world-class exhibit dubbed as “The War of our Fathers…A Tribute to the Filipino Freedom Fighter” during the 63rd landing anniversary of Gen. Douglas Mac Arthur and his forces in Lingayen on January 9 this year.
Sponsored by the Philippine Veterans Bank (PVB) and the Veterans Federation of the Philippines (VFP) in partnership with the provincial government led by Gov. Amado T. Espino, the exhibit will be open to the public free of charge at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center.

NOTHING could be more poignant in hard times than seeing and hearing government itself taking the lead in making its constituents produce food, not for anyone else’s consumption, but for their own.
A local government that puts a year-to-year vision in its programs for constituents can never go wrong. Innovating – or even copying – from other’s previous works or ideas only exposes a bankruptcy of vision and hazy, confused goals that would tell heavily on the welfare of the people it serves sooner or later.

DON’T you feel that this firecracker mania in the city, especially in the barangays, is getting a bit too much already? As the Tagalogs would say: “Enap olredi naw.”
What started out as a “fun” lighting of big, loud firecrackers at 12 noon of New Year’s Day, January 1, in barangay Pogo Grande – well-known for its lucrative though mainly underground firecracker manufacturers – has become nothing but one grand noise pollution, with the “big bomb” punctuating each rapid fire trayanggulo enough to break a child’s eardrum.

GUN HANDLING as practised and lived by the San Antonio, Texas police in the United States formed a major part of a firearms training recently conducted for Pangasinan police officers and men by a visiting Filipino-American peace officer based in the Lone Star state.
Texas police officer Monico Siapno Meneses, a certified law enforcement firearms instructor in the US and a native of Bonuan in Dagupan City was guest lecturer during the training held at the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office in Lingayen last Thursday, Jan. 3.

BLOOD may as well be in the hands of the Dagupan City jail warden as in the inmate-killer’s own in the killing of a jail guard Saturday in barangay Babasit in Manaoag at the house of the inmate’s brother.
Jail Officer 1 Bernabe de Leon, 54, of the city jail, was hit on the head with a piece of wood before being shot in the forehead with his own gun, a caliber .38, by an inmate, identified as Jose Pepito Salayog, 50, a native of Kalinga province.

SAN CARLOS CITY – Text messages circulated in this city and Pangasinan on New Year’s Day saying that Mayor Julier Resuello was arrested in Baguio City on drug charges.
The messages said that Resuello was intercepted by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency region 1 operatives on December 31 and that he shelled out P1.5 million to “buy”
a news blackout on the incident.
The mayor, son of slain former Mayor Julian Resulleo strongly denied the claim of the unknown texters.

THE explosions were just as loud as in past New Year’s Eve celebrations but lesser firecrackers were exploded by revelers midnight last December 31, this according to many people’s observations including city police and health authorities.
Records of the Region 1 Medical Center here seemed to bear this observation out: Only 36 injuries were listed starting December 21 to December 31, last year, at least 24 of these registered on the single night of December 31 till the following morning.

BAUTISTA—A jilted husband, in a fit of jealousy, ran amuck in barangay Nandacan here early Friday, leaving a trail of blood at the house of the man who took his wife of less than one year.
The suspect, Domingo Ferrer, of Bongato West slipped into the house of the man his wife was now living in and hacked and stabbed to death Adrian Joseph Cacatian, 28, the alleged lover and Analyn Beltran Ferrer, 29, his estranged wife, while the two were in bed.
