Alaminos airport plan scores one from LTFRB

ALAMINOS CITY—A high official of the Department of Transportation and Communication has confirmed that his office is “considering the proposal” for the construction of an international airport here.

Chairman Thompson Lantion of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) repeated to newsmen here no less than President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s statements for DOTC to place the airport here.

LTFRB is one of the offices under DOTC, an agency headed by Secretary Leandro Mendoza.

Lantion was in the city last Thursday with a visiting Qatar ambassador.

“It (international airport) is being considered because it was mentioned by no less that her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to the department as requested by the honorable Mayor of Alaminos, Hernani Braganza, “ the LTFRB head said.

He added the project is expected to be part of the next national budget because Alaminos, the Hundred Islands in particular, had been pinpointed as a tourist destination in the North.

He explained that the mandate of the DOTC is in support of tourism and agriculture of which Alaminos City is richly endowed with.
