SCIENTISTS from Australia and New Caledonia are helping local fishery experts conduct intensive research on sea cucumber, a favorite Chinese delicacy, according to Dr. Westly Rosario of the research center of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Bonuan Binloc.
Rosario said that the foot-long leech-like sea creature, a species of which thrives in the waters off Bolinao, may yet become a major source of income for fish farmers from the Lingayen Gulf area.

HOUSE Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. has rallied barangay officials in his own fourth district of Pangasinan to help in the overall effort to avert a climate change that is causing drought, typhoons and floods in different parts of the world.
Speaking before the oath-taking of barangay officials in Dagupan, San Jacinto, San Fabian, Manaoag and Mangaldan, de Venecia called for the massive planting trees in all backyards and vacant yards to help slow down global warming.

STA. BARBARA – Construction is now in full swing for a new bridge that will replace the old Maramba bridge leading to the town’s poblacion here.
Municipal Administrator Albertini de Guzman said the bridge, being constructed under the direct supervision of the Department of Public Works and Highways central office, will be completed “hopefully by June next year.”
Costing more or less P60 million, the new bridge is being constructed by the Toyo Construction of Japan, the same company that is presently building the new Pantal bridge in Dagupan City.

EVEN before any formal case is filed in court by the affected beach lot claimants against the city government for declaring all tax declarations covering foreshorelands cancelled, City Mayor Alipio Fernandez is taking a defensive posture to publicly explain the legal moorings of his order.
Executive Order No. 66, series of 2007 issued by Fernandez on Tuesday directed the City Assessor to immediately cancel all existing tax declarations issued over foreshore or public lands along the beaches of Tondaligan Park, especially in Bonuan Binloc, Dagupan City.

A NEW four-lane highway with a steel bridge in mid-stretch is set to be opened in Dagupan City by March next year, six months ahead of schedule, according to House Speaker Jose de Vencia Jr.
The new road which will skirt the downtown area of Dagupan measures 4,157 kilometers and costs P286.7 million, coming from the regular budget of the Department of Public Works and Highways and de Venecia’s Priority Development Assistance Fund.

NATIVIDAD – Police and barangay officials recovered parts of a human skeleton believed to be that of a New People’s Army amazon on Saturday in barangay Batchelor East here.
The police believe that scattered skeletal remains found in a remote area in the mountain trails of the village belonged to a female guerilla who was wounded in an encounter with the military in eastern Pangasinan sometime in August, this year.
