Dagupan stude among RP’s top 10 boy scouts

A 17-year old Filipino-Japanese boy who is in his fourth year at the Dagupan City National High School, was recently adjudged as one of the Most Outstanding Boy Scouts of the Philippines.

Asuka Toyoshima, who was born in Nagoya, Japan but grew up in Dagupan City, received his award from the BSP National Council headed by Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay in a ceremony at the Makati City Hall last October.

Toyoshima, a Venture scout, was commended in a resolution on Monday by the Dagupan City council headed by Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez for his outstanding feat, becoming only the second Dagupeno after 27 years picked by the BSP National Board of Judges as one of the country’s Most Outstanding Scouts.

The first boy scout from Dagupan who bagged the prestigious award sometime in 1980 was a student from the St. John Cathedral High School, also in Dagupan City.

The award was based on the character, personality, achievements, community service and life of the individual scouts evaluated by the board of judges.

“I can’t imagine that this happened to me,” said Toyoshima who won a two-year scholarship grant in any course in any state university in the Philippines from Coca-Cola for that feat.

He plans to take up either Business Administration or B.S. Accountancy at the University of the Philippines if he passes the UP College Aptitude Test after high school.

Toyoshima, half academic scholar at DCNHS, received his award along with Alfredo Gamer, also of Dagupan City, who was awarded by the national BSP as one of the country’s most outstanding scout executives.

A Boy Scout since he was in Grade 5 here, Toyoshima advanced in rank when he was in first year high school and maintained it when he was in his senior year.
