iNTENSITY 6 quake rocks Pangasinan
AN Intensity 6 earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter scale, according to the United States Geological Services rocked the Ilocos Tuesday noon but no casualties or damages to property was reported.Director Renato U. Solidum Jr. of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvolcs) reported that the epicenter of the quake was located 86 kilometers northwest of Lingayen, Pangasinan.
The quake was felt at intensity 6 in Lingayen, Pangasinan; intensity 5 in Bagac, Bataan; intensity 4 in Caloocan and Manila; and intensity 3 in Pasig, Bulacan, Tarlac, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Ilocos Norte and Makati.
The Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council headed by Ilocos Sur Governor Doegracias Victor “DV” B. Savellano warned residents along the seashore to watch out for a possible tsunami caused by the earthquake.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake was unlikely to cause tsunami or even stronger aftershocks. Undersea earthquakes that can cause tsunami are those that register at Intensity 7 and upwards, it said.
