A JOBS fair will be held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center gym on December 7, according to Alex Ferrer, head of the public employment service office (PESO).
He said that local and foreign companies looking for skilled workers are set to join the jobs fair.
Ferrer said that fresh engineering and architecture graduates are welcome to join the fair as some firms have been hiring new graduates who are willing to undergo training for two months like the Korean firm Hanjin Heavy Industries based in Subic. Read more

A FIREMAN died and his companion is now in serious condition after they were both electrocuted in barangay Poblacion West, Sta. Maria while they were installing a television antenna that touched a high tension wire.
The incident happened at about 6 p.m. on Saturday when the two firemen were installing a TV antenna for their newly-built fire station building.
The fatality was identified as Fire Officer 1 Allan Wendell Bautista, who died on the spot after suffering third degree burns in different parts of his body. Read more

SAN CARLOS CITY – A 20-year old teener from San Carlos City won the first prize in the piano competition of the National Music Competition of Young Artists held November 21 at the main theater of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
Andrew Bryan Nelmida Sapigao, a third year student and a scholar at the University of the Philippines College of Music in Diliman, is the son of San Carlos City Information Officer Noemi Rachel Nelmida Sapigao. Read more

VIGAN CITY – Farmers of Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte are appealing to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap to minimize the importation of onion and garlic as well as totally eradicate the smuggling of the spices into the country.
They made the call in a manifesto signed during the Ilocos-wide Garlic and Onion Congress hosted by Ilocos Sur Governor Deogracias Savellano at the provincial capitol here on Tuesday.

VIGAN CITY – Ilocos Sur Governor Deogracias Victor B. Savellano recently initiated the province-wide massive planting of “malunggay” in backyards and all available lots.
The planting activity that coincided with Savellano’s birthday, was held despite the onslaught of “Typhoon Mina” in northern Luzon, including the province of Ilocos Sur.
Malunggay, dubbed as a ‘miracle tree’, has leaves that are
considered one of the most nutritious source of bio-food on earth because of its Vitamin A, calcium, iron, potassium, protein and mineral contents and its medicinal value. Read more
