All Pangasinan towns now beset with garbage problem
SAN FABIAN – All municipalities in Pangasinan are now beset with the common problem on how to effectively manage their increasing solid wastes.
This was disclosed by Acting Governor Marlyn Primicias-Agabas based on initial consultation with towns and city mayors in Pangasinan.
LGUs had been given by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources up to February 2006 to close their insanitary open dumpsite yet not even one of them has complied with it as they cannot on their own build their sanitary landfill.
Agabas said mayors have suggested to her the possibility of pooling garbage in one area as this is doable than having one sanitary landfill in each town.
A proposed sanitary landfill in Bayambang that could serve this proposed is however, meeting stiff opposition from the residents, including the town mayor, Ricardo Camacho.
Dagupan City also attempted to put up its sanitary landfill in San Jacinto sometime ago but this ended in a failure.
The provincial government headed by Governor Amado Espino Jr. will study all options available in order to solve the now worsening problems of garbage, she said.
