PNP chief Razon warns mulcting cops

MALASIQUI – The days of mulcting cops are numbered, if one is to have full faith in the words of the country’s top policeman.

PNP Chief Director General Avelino Razon Jr. vowed to eradicate graft and corruption in the streets perpetrated by mulching cops and scalawags at all cost.

He said he will implement to the latter his program “No to Kotong” (No to Mulcting) and warned policemen who will not toe the line.

The campaign was launched due to numerous complaints by traders and businessmen transporting their goods from the provinces to Manila that they are being fleeced of some cash by policemen in the streets and along the national road.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo personally directed Razon to protect traders transporting their products to the market centers in Metro Manila from the provinces.

While here, Razon distributed pins to policemen with the words “No to Kotong” inscribed and cards listing down his telephone numbers which people can dial in case they want to personally bring their problems to his attention.

Razon also outlined his program “Mamang Pulis” which aims to improve the image of the police as servant and protector of the people in order to bring back the trust and confidence of the people to their policemen.

He emphasized that the policemen’s duty is “to serve and to protect” saying that beyond that, they are already doing a job that is outside their official function. (PNA)
