POLICE investigators are pursuing some leads on the motive and possible identity of the mastermind behind the shooting of local broadcaster Allan Sison late Friday evening outside his residence along the De Venecia highway.
Sison, a controversial figure in Pangasinan media circles who has had violent scrapes with other people and only recently with a fellow mediaman, has been pronounced by doctors as having good chances of surviving despite suffering two gunshot wounds believed fired from a .45 caliber pistol at close range. OF THE potential irrigable areas of 181,000 hectares in Pangasinan, only some 63,000 hectares of farmlands are actually benefitting from irrigation now, according to the provincial irrigation officer.
Engineer Helsy Bermudez said that 14,000 hectares are covered by the national irrigation system (NIS) while 49,000 fall under the small or communal irrigation system (CIS).
The total existing service areas for both NIS and CIS is 103,000 hectares but the systems in some 40,000 hectares of ricelands are no longer functioning, thus the need for rehabilitation, he disclosed. Read the rest of this entry »

Former Pangasinan Vice Governor Gonzalo Duque has reiterated his challenge to the provincial government to conduct a comprehensive research in order to find out the exact day in Philippine history when Pangasinan was created as a province.

THERE is hope that the proposed modern sanitary landfill in Bayambang town can still be realized.
No less than the Department of Environment and Natural Resources categorically denied that the project, which was proposed and subjected to a series of public hearings last year, was already shelved.

THE P1.249-billion Dawel-Lucao Diversion road in Dagupan City is set to be opened to vehicular traffic in March Next year, according to Department of Public Works and Highways Regional Director Fidel Ginez.
Ginez said the new highway is now 70 percent complete and the remaining 30 percent uncompleted is the P930 million bridge across the Pantal river funded by a soft loan released by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). Read the rest of this entry »
