THE Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in Dagupan were marred by charges and counter-charges of vote-buying by the candidates and their supporters.
These escalated tension in some barangays in the city where rivalry among the candidates for barangay captain was tight.
Areas where vote-buying were said to be rampant were barangays Bonuan Gueset, Tambac and Carael while in one barangay, the barangay chairman was accused of employing flying voters. Read the rest of this entry »
THE show of force by the Philippine National Police in many areas tagged susceptible to New People’s Army interference in Monday’s barangay elections appears to have worked – no NPA-related trouble was reported at close of the election precincts.

STA. BARBARA – An official here said with the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections now over, development of the whole of Sta. Barbara can proceed at a faster-pace under the leadership of Mayor Reynaldo Velasco.
Earlier, Velasco congratulated all elected and reelected barangay officials and the newly elected SK officials of the town.

A NEW landmark in Dagupan City opened in June this year, without much publicity.
This is the Asian Fisheries Academy (AFA) located at the 24-hectare Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-National Integrated Fisheries Technology Development Center in barangay Bonuan Binloc.
Already operational by the middle of this year, the Academy was conceived to disseminate new fishery breakthroughs and technologies not only in the entire Philippines but also abroad. Read the rest of this entry »

COINCIDING with the 93RD anniversary of the Iglesia ni Cristo (Church of Christ) last July 27, 2007, the National Historical Institute unveiled a historical marker on the birth site of Brother Felix Y. Manalo, known to his flock as God’s Messenger in these last days.
The piece of land at Brgy. Calzada, Tipas, Taguig City, Metro Manila where the late Felix Manalo’s ancestral home used to stand was first declared by NHI as a national historical landmark on January 6, 1986. VIGAN CITY – Rep. Ronald V. Singson (1st district – Ilocos Sur) has announced that the Vigan Airport here will soon be widened for it to be able to accommodate commercial and international flights.
Singson announced that he has requested some P250 million from the budget of the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) for the upgrading of the facilities of the airport.
The inclusion of the amount in the DOTC budget next year was worked out by Singson and House Deputy Speaker Eric D. Singson (2nd District – Ilocos Sur) during the recent deliberations of the national budget in Congress. Read the rest of this entry »
