GRADUATING high school students who have a knack for the sciences can now avail of scholarships in degree programs sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology.
DOST, thru the Science Education Institute (SEI) will grant the 2008 Science and Technology Scholarships (RA 7687) and 2008 DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarships (Merit) to fourth year students who wish to pursue courses in the field of sciences.

THE competitive price of coconuts now now makes many owners regret having cut their coconut trees earlier, according to the provincial head of the government coconut agency.
Eleazar Parohinog of the Philippine Coconut Authority said that young coconuts now sell at a farmgate price of P8. Retailers sell from P15 to P25 per nut.
He said that coconut farmers now no longer worry where to market their produce as buyers themselves go to their places unlike before. Read more

A NEW overpass was completed and another one is now in the finishing stage of its construction in Dagupan City.
Both funded by the Priority Development Assistance Fund of
House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., congressman of the fourth district of Pangasinan, the overpasses are considered a big boon to the city.
Already completed is the one in front of the Colegio de Dagupan and Nepo Mall on Arellano street in barangay Pantal. Read more

MORE election-related incidents were reported by the police in various parts of Pangasinan in the run up of tomorrow’s barangay elections.
he new incidents could compel the police to recommend to the Commission on Election more places in Pangasinan as areas of immediate concern.
At present, only two barangays were recommended by Police Provincial Director Isagani Nerez as areas of immediate concern.
These are Nibaliw Vidal in San Fabian and Carriedo in Tayug. Read more

SAN FABIAN - A Research project of the National Fisheries Research Development Institute (NFRDI) called modified fyke net could help boost fish catch and discourage illegal fishing.
The project is set for experimental testing in the coastal barangay of Rabon here in a few weeks.
Marites Shiuco, aquaculturist of NFRDI and in charge of the
project, said the fyke net technology will be the first of its kind in the country although its concept is like that of the bigger” lambaklad” already in use in some parts of the county. Read more

A TRAFFIC enforcer riding on a motorcycle died when his vehicle was bumped from behind by a van owned by the 3rd Highway District Engineering Office of the Department of Public Works and Highways along a provincial road in barangay San Jose, Urdaneta City Tuesday afternoon.
The fatality was identified as Eduardo Solomon, a traffic enforcer of San Carlos City and driver of the motorcycle which was bumped from behind by a Toyota RAV4 van owned by the DPWH and driven by Romulo Paran, alias “Mulong”, 51. Read more

VIGAN CITY – House Deputy Speaker for Northern Luzon Eric Singson sought a drastic reduction of importation of tobacco raw materials by local cigarette manufactures from 80 percent to 20 percent.

THERE are still many malnourished schoolkids in Dagupan today.
A city official has admitted high incidence of sever malnutrition in the city which she tagged as the possible reason for the increasing drop out rate in school.
City Nutrition Office Leah Aquino revealed at least 300 pupils in Dagupan have been identified as severely malnourished, and needing immediate intervention. Read more
