Malnutrition in school kids stil high –CNO
THERE are still many malnourished schoolkids in Dagupan today.
A city official has admitted high incidence of sever malnutrition in the city which she tagged as the possible reason for the increasing drop out rate in school.
City Nutrition Office Leah Aquino revealed at least 300 pupils in Dagupan have been identified as severely malnourished, and needing immediate intervention.
The CNO has thus launched a 120-day special feeding support from the CSI Group of Companies headed by Dagupan City Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez.
Aquino thanked the CSI Group of Companies for being the first to respond to the call of the city for help to address the high malnutrition among pupils in public schools.
CSI, in coordination with the city government and the Department of Education is sponsoring the 120-day feeding program in various schools, targeting the severely malnourished children.
Under the program, the weight of the severely malnourished pupils was taken first and the would-be recipients advised to undergo de-wormng.
They are given weighed after the 120-day feeding to find out the gains of the feeding program.
Aquino said aside from this, the city government takes one more step further by advising parents of malnourished pupils to become responsible parents and on what food they will give to their children.
She said following the example of CSI, other companies and civic clubs are now also conducting their own feeding projects in separate barangays of the city.
These include ABS-CBN North-Central Luzon, Kiwanis club and the Rotary Club of Uptown Dagupan.
