Tayug barangay poll bet shot dead

TAYUG – A candidate for barangay captain in barangay Carriedo was shot and killed and his son wounded when they were fired upon by gunmen aboard a motorcycle on Tuesday afternoon.

The fatality was identified as Jaime Tolentino, alias ‘Boy Hapon’, 56, who sustained five gunshot wounds on the stomach and head; and his son Marlon, 24, who was wounded by astray bullet in the right leg.

Both victims were rushed to the Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital in Tayug but the elder Tolentino died while undergoing operation.

The elder Tolentino is the father of Ryan Tolentino, a member of the De la Cruz Group and listed as wanted person at the regional level with warrants of arrest for murder and frustrated murder.

Witnesses said the motorcycle-riding suspects who opened fire on the victims in front of their house were wearing helmets and black jackets.

Six empty shells of Caliber 45 pistol were recovered by investigators at the crime scene.

All these will be subjected to ballistic examination and cross matching to compare with the empty shells found by investigators in another crime scene in Tayug last October 3.
