Mayor Raul de Guzman here insinuated this much in the affirmative saying that most of the members of the town council played politics when they did not approve the measure to put the town under a state of calamity after a perceived spate of dengue cases.

THE city government here may be sued for illegal exaction for its having collected towing, clamping and impoundment fees from motorists parking their vehicles in no parking zones of the city streets from 2005 to 2007, a city official said.

City Legal Officer George Mejia Public Order and Safety Office chief Robert Erfe-Mejia admitted his office made the collection through the privately-owned JLD Motor Works and Towing Service and remitted 20 percent of the collection to the city treasury and 80 percent of JLD.

SAN CARLOS CITY — Some 20,000 alumni and balikbayans who graduated from the Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation (VMUF) here will converge on February 8, 2008 during the university celebration of its 50th Golden Anniversary and Grand Alumni Homecoming.

Provincial Director Peter Mangabat of the Department of Trade and Industry provincial office issued this advice to consumers in light of accidents caused by defective or inferior products.

CONSUMERS have the right to return defective goods even if such were bought in a bargain sale, the provincial head of the Department of Trade and Industry stressed Tuesday.

DTI provincial director Peter Mangabat said that consumers should be properly informed or apprised by the store owner or his sales personnel about the condition of the goods put under “sale.”

THE Fernandez city administration appears to have revived a campaign against the new city administration here is now on a syndicate reportedly parceling out the foreshore land in barangay Bonuan Binloc into small lots before selling supposed rights for these properties to individual buyers.

Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. ordered City Legal Officer George Mejia and the newly created Task Force on Housing and Urban Resettlement to investigate the matter and file the necessary charges in court against all persons responsible.

ACTION photos taken by photojournalist-contributors of Pangasinan Star romped off with the top awards in the recent Milo Little Olympics Photo Contest.

Winning the top prize for his photo entry published in the Pangasinan Star was ace lensman Willie Lomibao. Another photo contributor to this paper, Cesar Ramirez, won the second-runner-up trophy and prize.

URDANETA CITY – A city in Spain, birthplace of Spanish friar, Andres Urdaneta, from whom this city derived its name, is seeking to establish sisterhood relationship wit this bustling city.

City Mayor Amadeo Perez said this was conveyed by the city of Ordista in Spain which is celebrating the 500th birth anniversary of their famous native son, Fr. Urdaneta, by the first week of December.

Perez said he is just waiting for the invitation of Ordista City in Spain so he can go there and sign the sisterhood agreement with the mayor of Ordista. Read the rest of this entry »



URDANETA CITY – The Court of Appeals has upheld the decision of the Board of Medicine of the Professional Regulations Commission that meted a doctor here of one-year suspension from the practice of medicine for having allegedly misdiagnosed and operated on a 17-year old boy who died.

This was contained in the decision of the appellate court that dismissed the petition filed by Dr. Candido P. San Juan against couple Ruben and Yolando Rejuso, et. Al that sought to reverse the earlier decision of the Board of Medicine.

URDANETA CITY – A big manufacturing firm from Manila is negotiating to buy a 10-hectare lot in Urdaneta where it would build a large industrial complex.

City Mayor Amadeo Perez Jr. still withheld the name of the company because it is still negotiating with private land owners to purchase their property.
