DAGUPAN city election registrar Remarque Ravanzo clarified Friday that candidate-applicants for the barangay and sangguniang kabataan elections found positive for drug use are not disqualified from running and may proceed with their candidacies, but they may have to suffer from the stigma especially among the more discerning voters.
Ravanzo issued the explanation as he announced that Commission on Elections offices are ready for the October 29 local political exercise and conduct the same if no law is passed between now and the scheduled election for a postponement. Read the rest of this entry »
LINGAYEN – The province of Pangasinan ranked ninth among the provinces in the country with substantial amount of cash in bank, sixth highest in gross income and fifth with highest net income.
This was contained in the “Financial Highlights for Local Government Units for Financial Year 2006 recently released by the Commission on Audit.
The financial report listed Pangasinan during the administration of then Governor Victor Agbayani, now congressman of the second district, as among the top 10 provinces in financial and fiscal performance. Read the rest of this entry »
MALASIQUI- A barangay councilmen was electrocuted when he stepped on a live wire then fell after being hit by a falling tree trunk in barangay Nalsian Norte here Thursday dawn at the height of typhoon “Ineng”.
The fatality was identified as Eduardo Garcia, 49, councilman of Nalsian Norte, who was on his way home from a night watch patrol of which he was team leader.
Although the incident happened sometime at 1 a.m. of Thursday, it was only at 6 a.m. that day that the body of the victim was discovered along a road leading to their house.
He suffered third degree burns on his chest and legs and died on the spot. (PNA)
LINGAYEN – Four fishermen from Bolinao town were reported missing when they went out fishing in the South China Sea as typhoon “Ening” was just approaching.
The four were identified as Arnold Cabana, Victor Bautista, Rodel Resurreccion and Rey Dagon, all of barangay Luciente, Bolinao.

THE Dagupan City council here is still studying whether it will endorse a proposal of the Dagupan City Water District (DCWD) for a loan of P397 million from a German company to improve its service delivery to water consumers in the city.

SAN FABIAN – Four members of an “Akyat Bahay” gang were arrested hours after they barged inside the house of a businesswoman in barangay Nibaliw Center in San Fabian at dawn of October 1.
Arrested by elements of the San Fabian Police station were the gang leader, identified as Renato Acosta, alias Rene, Reynante Acosta, Ninoy Sevidal and Bonie de la Cruz, all residents of the place.
The police said the four forcibly entered the house of one Maria Sita Inigo, 48, by destroying the lock of a sliding door while the latter was sleeping inside her room. Read the rest of this entry »

VIGAN CITY – Governor Deogracias Victor “DV” B. Savellano has confirmed here the sisterhood relationship between Ilocos Sur and Hunan province in the People’s Republic of China (PROC).
Hunan Province, which has a total land area of 211,800 square kilometers and with 67.32 million population, is called as the “fish pond and rice bowl” of China.

THE National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) will conduct its annual series of consultation meetings with electric power industry stakeholders in key cities nationwide to discuss its 2007-2016 Transmission Development Plan.
The TDP is a program for expansion, reinforcement, upgrading, and rehabilitation of the transmission system, which is prepared by TransCo and submitted to the Department of Energy (DOE) for integration to DOE’ Power Development Plan (PDP) and Philippine Energy Plan (PEP). URDANETA CITY – A suspected member of a gunrunning syndicate operating in eastern Pangasinan was arrested by the police on Wednesday in a raid at his residence in barangay Anonas here.

ANOTHER person was arrested by the police in Pangasinan for violation of the Comelec gunban in connection with the October 29 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
Rodolfo de la Cruz, 40, barangay Apatol, Maseil-seil, Umingan, was the seventh person already arrested by the police for gun ban violation since it went into effect on September 29.
The six others are two suspected members of a robbery gang who were arrested in Dagupan, and four policemen from Sto. Tomas town who were arrested at Puerto Paraiso Resort in Binalonan. Read the rest of this entry »
