New university rises in eastern Pangasinan

BINALONAN – The latest university to rise in Pangasinan is in this town which has joined other local government units that now own and operate universities.

The University of Eastern Pangasinan (UEP), owned by the municipal government of Binalonan, received a certificate of authority to operate from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

The certificate was received in behalf of the university by Vice Mayor Ramon Guico III, UEP president, from CHED Director for Region 1 Dr. Evelyn Pascua in a simple ceremony witnessed by students at the university campus last September 18.

Guico III, represented his father Mayor Ramon Guico Jr., UEP founder and chairman of the board, in that occasion. The elder

Guico is president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines and Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP).

Also present were Dr. Arlene Grace Guico, UEP vice president for academic affairs, Councilor Myrnabelle Uy and other members of the municipal council.

Vice Mayor Guico III foresees that the grant of CHED certificate of authority to UEP will make the town of Binalonan the new hub of higher education in eastern Pangasinan.

The CHED certificate allows UEP to offer educational courses, such as B.S. in Nursing, B.S. Hotel and Restaurant Management, B.S. Tourism, B.S. Information Technology, B.S. Business Administration and others.

Present at the rites was Director Washington Agustin of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
