LINGAYEN - Gov. Amado T. Espino supports the administration’s pardon for convicted former President Joseph Estrada except for the process involved.

Espino told a press conference Friday at the Urduja House lobby that it was Estrada who should have showed his interest in seeking pardon, not the other way around.

“Sana siya ang sumulat sa gobyerno na humihingi ng pardon at nagsisisi sya sa kanyang nagawa … Hindi naman, inaatake pa nya ang Sandiganbayan,” he noted. Read more

ALCALA – A three-term councilor was shot and killed by a still unidentified gunman in barangay Don Pedro Apartado at 7 p.m. on Monday, the police said.

SPO4 Roberto Soriano Saguin, deputy chief of police of Alcala, identified the fatality as Councilor Juan Ablao, 55, who sustained a gunshot wound in the head.

The victim was immediately rushed by relatives to the San Juan Bautista Hospital in Bautista town but was pronounced dead on arrival by an attending physician. Read more

A FORMER barangay captain was shot and killed by the incumbent barangay captain in barangay Bongalon, Labrador and his companions at about 9:30 p.m. last Monday.

The fatality was identified as Loreto Ugaban, 67, who was reportedly ambushed by incumbent barangay captain Mario Uson and unidentified companions while he was going home.

Senior Inspector Roberto Manuel, chief of police of Labrador, said the victim died on the spot. Read more

THE Dagupan city government’s sidewalk recovery program has so far cleared some major streets in the city of illegal vendors, illegally parked vehicles, stalls and other obstructions.

The sidewalk clearing operations are conducted by personnel from the city engineer’s office (CEO) in compliance with City Ordinance No. 1873-2006 which prohibits the use of sidewalks as parking area, and any purpose other than as passageways for pedestrians. Read more
