ALAMINOS CITY – The provincial board is conducting a province-wide consultation with municipal and city mayors on the plan to devolve the position of sanitary inspectors to municipal and city governments.

LINGAYEN – Several high-powered firearms and ammunitions were seized by the police in a raid at the residence of an alleged leader of a cattle rustling syndicate in western Pangasinan.

A MILD fishkill that broke out in Dagupan City last week caused P186,000 in opportunity losses to fish farmers engaged in the culture of milkfish (bangus).
City Agriculture Officer Emma Molina said the fishkill was caused by oxygen depletion in the water that occurred during neap tide caused by the changing face of the moon, a natural occurrence.
The fishkill occurred in parts of barangay Pugaro, Salapingao, Lomboy and sitio Sabangan in Bonuan Gueset. Read the rest of this entry »

The provincial government has collected from Team Sual Corporation the sum of P160.8 million, representing the Sual Coal Fired Power Thermal Plant’s (SCFPTP) real property tax liabilities covering the period January 1, 2006 to December, 2007.
An SCFPTP check in the amount of P160,838,136.58 was handed over by Team Sual Corporation president Federico Puno to Pangasinan Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. immediately after the signing of a memorandum of agreement at the power plant last week. Read the rest of this entry »

JUST as our editorial of the previous issue predicted, Filipinos generally took the guilty verdict on Erap calmly and all the jitters and anxiety among administration figures including Malacanang about any wave of protests in the wake of the Sandiganbayan decision proved unfounded.
Maybe it was the overwhelming presence of Calderon’s and Esperon’s troops ringing key points in Manila that did the trick, Perhaps it was the accused and now convict Erap’s own calm physical acceptance of the verdict in the courtroom that signaled the supporters for serenity. It may have also been because of plain people power fatigue – and so the expected millions of angry protesters just didn’t materialize in the streets.

THE guilty verdict on the plunder case against former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada only showed that nobody is above the law and that justice still exists in the country.
Most Pangasinenses aired this common sentiment when asked to react on the guilty verdict against Estrada Wednesday.

THE city government has allayed fears of local exporters of processed milkfish that it will compete with them in their business with the slated establishment of a P100 million Bangus and Fish Processing Plan here.
