CITY Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez has given the go-signal for the holding of a transport summit to be attended not only by drivers and operator but by all stakeholders, including businessmen, members of the educational sectors and the riding public.
On the request of the transport sector for the reduction of fines for traffic violators, the vice mayor however said offhand that this is no longer necessary.

THE newly assumed officer-in-charge of the Dagupan Police was commended by the city council for leading in the successive arrests of 16 drug pushers and or users in just one day after assuming his post.
The commendation given to Supt. Dionisio Borromeo, who assumed as OIC chief of police on August 6 this year was contained in a resolution approved by the city council on Tuesday.

DAGUPAN City has been chosen by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as one of the recipients of its comprehensive outreach and fish breeding project.
Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. said the project is a collaboration between the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-National Integrated Fisheries Technology Development Center (BFAR-NIFTDC) and the JICA.
Other recipients are the coastal municipalities of Binmaley and Lingayen, also both fish-producing areas like Dagupan. Read more

A CITY official here has proposed that all new school buildings to be constructed from now on here should be elevated or at least be made two-storeys as some areas in the city are flood-prone.
Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez said she will submit it this proposal to Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. and to the city council committee on education headed by Councilor Danilo Torio.

LINGAYEN – Councilor Raul P.Sison of Urbiztondo won as president of the Philippine Councilors League Pangasinan Chapter in the PCL election at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center last Tuesday.
Sison, who garnered 243 votes, edged out Pozorrubio Councilor Dennis Uy by 41 votes. The third PCL candidate, Councilor Orlando de Guzman of Basista, got three votes.

CAMP BGEN OSCAR FLORENDO La Union – The police vehemently denied that they tortured the arrested gunman involved in the slaying of the lady municipal treasurer of Bauang, La Union in the morning of August 6 in front of her house in order to extract a confession.
Supt. Pedro Obaldo, police chief of Bauang town, refuted the allegation made by the wife of Rogelio Ordoña, the arrested suspect in the slaying of Felicidad Picar, in her complaint before PNP Chief Director General Oscar Calderon.

UNSIGHTLY, dangling overhead wires in side streets of Dagupan will soon be gone, following the signing shortly of a unified pole agreement among all public utilities and local television companies.
City Administrator Alvin Fernandez said that all these agreed to implement before the year ends the first of its kind Unified Pole Attachment Scheme (UPAS).
UPAS was found to be a better alternative than the earlier suggestion for the placing of all the wires underground.

BAYAMBANG – One of three detention prisoners who escaped from the Bayambang Police Jail on Aug. 17 at 11:45 p.m. at the height of a town-wide brownout was recaptured by the police, it was learned on Sunday.
Recaptured was Ramil Junio who escaped with one Milfred Solis and John Rafael Nicasio by sawing off the window grills at the back of the detention cell during a brownout caused by heavy downpour triggered by typhoon “Egay”. Read more

AGRICULTURE and veterinary officers in Region 1 and Pangasinan have stepped up their public awareness campaign targeting local government units, livestock traders and consumers as they sought to get the World Animal Health Organization recognize mainland Luzon as Foot-and-Mouth Disease-Free by 2008.
A motorcade wound up at the Urdaneta City Livestock Market recently to entice livestock traders to support the campaign by having their vehicles accredited by the Bureau of Animal Industry, acquiring a Livestock Handler’s License and securing pertinent shipment documents (veterinary health certificate and shipping permit) prior to transport of their livestock.
