LINGAYEN —The new power firm that took over the operations of the Sual Coal Fired Thermal Power Plant (SCFTPP) has promised to finally settle all the plant’s accumulated financial obligations to the provincial government.
Federico Puno, president and chief executive officer of Team Energy that replaced Mirant Corporation as manager of the power firm last July 15, told Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr that he wanted to start things at the plant “right and clear.”
The Team Energy commitment was made during a top level meeting at the Sual plant’s corporate board room held last Friday. Read more

THAT much ballyhooed “first-ever” transport summit being planned by the city administration of Dagupan which is being prompted by the continuing agitation from the ranks of transport operators and drivers certainly has merit.
I am afraid however that, without meaning to doubt or denigrate the capability of the very young Councilor Karlos Reyna, the city council’s chairman on infrastructure and public utilities, the old guys in that chamber are practically feeding wide-eyed Reyna to the lions. Imagine an amateur alderman being ranged against veteran and militant transport leaders in a no-holds-barred confrontation – this, even with side “support” from his peers in the council – and you have the unfolding scenario of a prey tossed into the mouths of giants. “Grabe ang resistance,”said Dr. Ana Teresa de Guzman, acting provincial health and population officer, on the reaction of Pangasinense men on the vasectomy procedure. Read more

CITY Mayor Alipio Fernandez, Jr. assured on Wednesday that the city government will formulate and implement a labeling system for the Dagupan bangus to prevent deception of consumers due to the unabated influx of ‘alien bangus’ in the city.
Fernandez stressed that “there shall be truth in labeling” and differentiation of the Dagupan bangus from the ‘alien bangus.’
He directed the fisheries management section of the city agriculture’s office and the market division to present an effective and more viable labeling system to set apart the Dagupan bangus, widely known as the tastiest of its kind, from those coming from other sources. Read more
