Bataoil orders cop chiefs: Solve La Union bombings

POLICE Regional Director Chief Superintendent Leopoldo Bataoil believes that the sporadic bombings in La Union perpetrated by unknown persons plain and simple “local terrorism”.

Bataoil was reacting to the sporadic bombings, the latest of which happened in San Fernando City last week in which a San Fernando city government employee was wounded, as well as in Agoo and Bauang town, much earlier.

He said that so far, they have adopted preventive measures to prevent more bombings and are doing every effort to have all these cases solved.

Bataoil ordered Supt. Valerio, the chief of police of San Fernando, to solve the bombing incidents as they did earlier in Agoo when a supporter of a politician was arrested.

He said the chief of police asked for one platoon only but he gave one and half platoon or more than 40 additional police personnel.

“I told the chief of police (of San Fernando) to follow what the chief of police of Agoo did who not only solved the case but also arrested the perpetrator,” he said.

He warned that if, despite the support he had given, the incidents would not be solved, that would be detrimental to the officer’s career.

Bataoil clarified, however, that he does not want to go to this extent because solution to these is not only in the hands of the police but also in civilians who must cooperate so the perpetrators can be arrested.
