Monday this week (July 16), the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO-1) together with the Kiwanis Club of Dagupeña, Metro Dagupan launches PRO-1’s advocacy on the culture of saving. Piggy banks were distributed to some school children to drumbeat the campaign.
We could only give so much number of piggy banks, but the main objective is to inculcate in the young minds of the children (adults included) the importance of saving. If we’ve forgotten this practice, then it’s time to start again. Read more

LINGAYEN – Expect all provincial officials including the governor and members of the sangguniang panlalawigan to hold office at the provincial Capitol building, no longer at the nearby Urduja House or the Finance building.
Gov. Amado T. Espino stressed this point in his message before the sangguniang palalawigan last Monday as he revealed that he himself was holding office at the Capitol since he assumed office instead of doing so at the Urduja House as had been the practice of his predecessors.
Urduja, he pointed out, is the official residence of the governor where dignitaries and other official guests will be received and not a place for an office. The building will also serve as a guest house, according to him. Read more

LINGAYEN – Former Gov. Victor E. Agbayani Thursday strongly took exception to allegations his administration was wracked with irregularities.
Agbayani, now second district congressman, said that the P300 million loan from Land Bank of the Philippines was spent according to the strict policies set by the bank.
Some P266 million was spent for the construction of four major bridges, 17 roadlines and irrigation and drainage systems as well as repair and maintenance of government hospital, he said.

CITY Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. flexed his muscle barely two weeks into his term as he stopped a controversial project being constructed by a private corporation on city government land in the heart of the city that proceeded even without a building permit.
City Engineer Virginia Rosario called in the police when she issued the ultimatum of the management of MetroState Realty Corporation to cease and desist from further constructing a supposed P84 million tourism-commercial building without first securing a building permit. Read more

LINGAYEN – The municipal government here, in coordination with the provincial government, is conducting a comprehensive survey that could identify public lands to be developed into eco-tourism sites.
Mayor Ernesto Castañeda said he called officials of the provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) and barangay captains to a meeting recently to map out an action plan that could hasten the identification process.
Castañeda said the move is consistent with the plan of Gov. Amado Espino Jr. to further enhance tourism and make it a top money-earner in Lingayen, capital of Pangasinan and the whole province in general. Read more

LINGAYEN – A top police official in the Ilocos region said it is just a normal thing if the newly assumed city and municipal executives, particularly the new ones, ask for the replacement of their police chiefs.
Chief Supt. Leopoldo Bataoil, police regional director in the Ilocos, said it is the prerogative of officials who assumed office June 30 to ask for a new face as their chief of police.
The PNP Law must be observed however in any replacement of chiefs of police, Bataoil told newsmen here. Read more

THE Philippines has shown remarkable success in its continuing fight against tuberculosis during the past few years although the country is still one of the 22 nations of the world with high incidence of TB.
This was disclosed by Roberto Ilagan, regional manager of the Linking Initiative and Networking to Control Tuberculosis (TB Link), commissioned by the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) to assist the Department of Health and local government units in monitoring TB case detection and cure rates in the Philippines.
TB Link is involved in a five-year project in the control of tuberculosis in the Philippines that started on October 2006 till 2011 funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Read more

NATIONAL Transmission Corporation (TransCo), the country’s sole transmission service provider joined the Philippine National Police and telephone companies in the Anti-Cable Theft Conference last July 11, 2007 at the PLDT Building, San Fernando City.
The growing number of telephone cable thefts prompted La Union Police Provincial Office (LUPPO), and telecommunication giants PLDT and Digitel to convene other business entities and local government units to organize the Joint Anti-Cable Theft Task Force (JATTF). The task force, aside from PNP’s ongoing Oplan Live Wire, is expected to address the persistent incidence of theft with the help of concerned parties and legislators.
