Foreign attache post for VM Alvin
IT’S FOREIGN affairs for Vice-Mayor Alvin Fernandez.
Fernandez himself revealed the possible jump from City hall to a foreign post either in the United States or China during a recent radio interview.
The position is seen as a reward for his sacrifice or efforts in the last elections after he was prevailed upon not to run anymore in the last elections but simply be the paty manager of the winning Lakas-CMD team led by his father, resigned Immigration Commissioner Alipio Fernandez, Jr.
The young Fernandez clarified however that he will first help set up the new city administration before ever embarking on a foreign assignment, either as “agriculture attaché” or “tourism attache. With his father having been at the helm for three consecutive terms, he said he does not foresee any problem in the assumption of the new administration.
Except for the city information officer position which he said will be given to Ryan Ravanzo, he refused to identify those who would occupy other co-terminus positions like the city administrator.
The young Fernandez himself was earlier reported as being eyed to take the post. Also being considered was former Vice-Mayor Teodoro Manaois III, who was however reported as having a health problem.
Ravanzo, brother of city election officer Remarque Ravanzo, is presently connected with the office of outgoing Vice-Gov. Oscar Lambino. He could have been named to a key position in the provincial government had Lambino won in his gubernatorial bid.
Other key city hall positions to be filled up include that of the city legal officer. The office was vacated by lawyer Geraldine Baniqued when she ran for board member in the fourth district but lost.
The public order and safety office (POSO) and the anti-hawking division which were strengthened by the outgoing administration in its drive to maintain order in the city streets and presently headed by persons identified with Mayor Benjamin S. Lim may either be maintained or abolished.
But there have been strong calls for the incoming administration to maintain the status quo..
For the province, word is that former Villasis Mayor Ramon Morden was being considered as provincial administrator, while lawyer and former provincial board member Francisco Baraan III may be tapped as provincial legal officer. Both positions now are occupied by lawyer Virgilio Solis. (DOS/PIA)
